What is SmoothEye?

Fotona SmoothEye™ is a non-evasive ER: YAG laser treatment that offers peri-ocular resurfacing around the eyes. By tightening and reducing wrinkles, the procedure addresses crows feet, puffiness and the appearance of drooping skin. A laser light is used to lightly ablate the surface of the skin, softening the appearance of wrinkles, tightening the skin and lifting dropped contours. This treatment can be used as a stand-alone treatment or used after having had anti-wrinkle injections to prolong results. With no need for needles or invasion of the skin, this is a key treatment for anyone wanting a non-surgical eyelift.

How Does Fotona SmoothEye Work?

Ideal for women over 40 years of age, laser light is used to lightly ablate the surface of the skin. By heating the deeper layers of skin to 42-45 °C, the temperature is maintained for just a few minutes to enable the collagen to contract and stimulate fibroblast activity, resulting in a firmer and more smoother appearance.

What can I expect during and after my SmoothEye treatment?

During the treatment, you are kept comfortable with the aid of a cool compressor blowing cold air on the area. You may feel some slight heat and/or prickly sensation, though most patients find the treatment very tolerable. A topical anesthetic can be applied if requested. After the treatment the area may appear red for 24-48 hours (like a mild sunburn) and on a rare occasion, some may experience mild swelling. Around day 3 the area can feel somewhat dry and you may experience some mild flaking which can last for up to 1 week after the treatment. We recommend avoiding any heat exposure for at least 48 hours after the treatment and wear sun protection at all times.

Is there any downtime with SmoothEye Treatment?

Fotona SmoothEye is a safe and quick procedure [30 minutes] with minimal downtime. Your skin will be sensitive for approximately four hours after the treatment; almost like a mild sunburn and your face may appear red for 24-48 hours. Some patients may also experience mild swelling though this is quite rare.

By day three, your skin will feel dry and may begin to flake up to a week following the treatment. This process will lay the foundations for new skin to regenerate.  

You will be advised to avoid any heat-based treatments up to 48 hours after the treatment and wear SPF 30 protection at all times. A post-treatment skin regime will also be recommended for home, which will include a range of cosmeceuticals tailored to your specific skin. This is particularly important as the right skincare regime will protect your natural skin barrier and help consolidate the work that has been done underneath the skin layers.

How Many Treatments required for SmoothEye?

To achieve optimal results, we recommend that you undergo a minimum of three to four treatments every four weeks apart. The results are typically permanent and you will see instant improvement from the stimulation of collagen contraction. Some patients, however, may opt for ongoing maintenance to achieve longer-lasting results in synchronicity with the natural ageing process.
