LABIAPLASTY

Labiaplasty - Vaginal Rejuvenation Treatment in Baltimore, MD

Labiaplasty, also known as aesthetic vaginal surgery or vaginal reconstructive surgery, is a procedure performed to reduce or reshape the lips of the vagina, known as the labia. Labia minora are the inner lips, while the outer rims are known as labia majora. The labia cover the clitoris and vaginal opening. When they are enlarged or asymmetrical, women can experience pain during intercourse or embarrassment during daily activities. Schedule an appointment with Women’s Health and Cosmetic Services of Maryland. Our Glen Burnie office practice offers flexible scheduling, even for new patients. We serve the residents of Baltimore, Annapolis and the surrounding Maryland communities.

What is Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty and vaginal rejuvenation procedures restore the appearance and tightness of the vaginal area. This procedure is popular among women who are interested in reversing the changes caused by childbirth and aging, or women who are simply unhappy with the appearance. A labiaplasty vaginal rejuvenation surgically restores or improves the function and cosmetic appearance of the vaginal area.

Labiaplasty is for women who have a problem with large labia, asymmetric labia, or related female genital issues. The procedure will reduce the size or change the shape of the lips on the outside of the vagina, and correct any irregularities.

Is Labiaplasty Right for Me?

There are two different reasons for undergoing labiaplasty,
  •  WOMEN WITH A FUNCTIONAL ISSUE
    • These individuals often experience pain during intercourse or while participating in activities like riding a bike or horseback riding. They may also deal with uncomfortable symptoms like chafing.
  • WOMEN WITH COSMETIC CONCERNS
    • Other individuals may not like the physical appearance of the vagina, due to uneven or protruding lips. This aesthetic concern may make them self-conscious in snug-fitting clothing and during intimacy with a partner.

Options in Labiaplasty

Dr. Dinc might use a variety of techniques when he performs your female rejuvenation surgery:
  • TRIM TECHNIQUE
    • During this procedure, Dr. Dinc trims away the outer edge of the labia minora to reduce possible protrusion and create a smoother, pinker edge. This technique is the least invasive and the most straightforward and can be used when minimal correction is required.
  • WEDGE TECHNIQUE
    • With the wedge resection, a small portion of the labia minor is removed in a wedge shape, and the edges are sutured together. In addition to removing more of the vaginal lips, this technique preserves the natural side and color of the labia minora.
  • CLITORAL HOOD REDUCTION
    • When there is excess tissue surrounding the clitoris, it can be difficult for a woman to become sufficiently stimulated during intercourse. This technique removes the excess tissue, exposing more of the clitoris for improved sexual function. For more information,
Dr. Dinc will select the best technique for you based on your specific concerns. Your options will be discussed at your initial consultation.

Why I need Labiaplasty ?

Here are the five major reasons why women decide to get a labiaplasty:
  • Chronic irritation when wearing certain types of clothes or swimwear
  • Dark pigmentation on the edges of their labia minora
  • Embarrassment over the size of their labia
  • Low self-esteem and feeling self-conscious about their labia
  • Pain like pulling and pinching during physical and sexual activities
A labiaplasty will help provide comfort when you are active in physical activities and can improve your self-esteem in the process. When it is affecting the quality of your life, why not consider labiaplasty for all the reasons listed above? It will make you feel more comfortable and confident no matter what activities you are involved with.

What to expect with Labiaplasty ?

Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure with a relatively brief recovery period.

Patients are advised to avoid sexual intercourse, tampons, bicycle riding, horseback riding, and other such activities for 6 weeks after surgery to allow for proper healing. Improvement can be seen immediately, and scars fade quickly and are very discreet.

This is a surgery that is long-lasting, low maintenance, and can be life-changing for women who experience significant discomfort or sexual embarrassment due to oversized labia.

Why Might a Woman Choose Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery?

The most common reason a woman chooses vaginal rejuvenation surgery is to treat labia minora excess. The labia minora is not the only area that can be treated with vaginal rejuvenation surgery, however. Other areas that can be treated include labia majora excess, fat loss of labia majora or mons, excess fat of the mons, and excess clitoral hood skin.

Does Labiaplasty hurt?

Labiaplasty, as an outpatient procedure (meaning you don’t stay at the hospital overnight afterward), can be done under general anesthesia or a combination of sedation and local anesthesia. The labia and vagina are sensitive areas. If you have a labiaplasty, your vulva will be sore and swollen. You can also take measures to reduce the pain such as a warm sitz bath or application of cold presses to the area to reduce swelling.

What about Labia Minora Reduction?

With massive weight loss, the labia can become deflated, and the skin can appear to be in excess. This can be treated either by a surgical removal of the extra labia majora skin or filling and plumping of the labia majora with fat grafting.

What Is a Clitoral Hood Reduction?

The clitoral hood is the layer of skin that overlies the clitoris. In some women, this skin can be excessive, leading the clitoris to be covered. This extra skin can be removed using a clitoral hood reduction, which can improve appearance and potentially sexual satisfaction.

Why Would a Woman Want to Inject Fat in the Vaginal Region?

Occasionally, with severe weight loss, the labia majora will develop a deflated look with the appearance of loose, flabby skin in the area. This can be corrected by performing liposuction to remove unwanted fat from another part of the body and then injecting that fat into the area of the labia majora and mons to plump the area.

Are Patients Happy After Vaginal Rejuvenation?

A recent study of over 400 cases showed that 93% of women who undergo labiaplasty report an improvement in self-esteem.

Is Labial Reduction or Labiaplasty Safe?

Labial reduction surgery is an extremely safe outpatient procedure that is one of the fastest-growing procedures performed by plastic surgeons nationwide.

Why Would I Need Vaginal Rejuvenation after Weight Loss?

As a result of extreme weight loss, the fat in the labia majora thins out, causing the appearance of loose skin and the loss of a soft, young look. This can often be fixed by performing liposuction to remove unwanted fat somewhere else on the body and transferring that fat into the labia and the mons pubis.

How is the recovery after Labiaplasty?

Every woman will recover in her way and her own time. On average, most patients take a week off from work, depending on the type of work that you do. Plan on six weeks or so before resume your regular exercise routine and sexual activities.

It will be helpful to wear loose clothing, especially bottoms and sit on a soft pillow. You should drink plenty of water and pee in a warm shower if urination becomes too painful. Keep in mind it will be uncomfortable to urinate and sit during your recovery. Staying off your feet will help to decrease swelling.
