What is CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Skin resurfacing using a C02 Laser is a procedure that dramatically smooths the skin by removing dead skin layers and creating microscopic burned areas of the tissue. C02 is considered the “gold standard” of laser resurfacing and the new fractional C02 laser resurfacing offered at Women’s Health and Cosmetic Services of Maryland is the newest technology available. The C02 laser beam delivers a warm pulse of light that is absorbed by the water in the tissue. The heat from the laser creates the microscopic holes that later heal and repair to eliminate the visible signs of aging and acne scars while stimulating collagen production to deliver visible anti-aging benefits. C02 Laser Resurfacing is the most aggressive form of laser resurfacing available. It’s designed to give big results in 1 – 3 treatments but requires around 7 – 10 days of recovery.
At Women's Health Services of Maryland we offer several different laser rejuvenation and resurfacing treatments, including fractional CO2 and PICOsecond technology to help bring back the smooth, healthy, and vibrant skin you once had.

How Much Does CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing Cost?

Costs will vary from patient to patient and be dependent on the extent of treatment needed to achieve your aesthetic goals and the particular laser skin resurfacing treatment selected. Depending on the severity of the skin condition, 1 – 3 treatments may be required. All costs and financing options will be discussed prior to you starting treatment.

What are the risks involved with C02 Laser Resurfacing?

C02 laser resurfacing is a riskier procedure than other forms of skin resurfacing. It’s generally safe for Caucasian skin but can be especially risky for darker skin. With any procedure that opens the skin, there is a risk of infection as well as a risk of stimulating an outbreak of Herpes Simplex on the face. Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation is also a risk for C02 laser resurfacing but this can typically be prevented by pretreatment with hydroquinone.

When will I see results with C02 Laser Resurfacing?

Results from a C02 laser resurfacing treatment can be seen quickly. Usually, after the skin heals in about 10 days there will be a noticeable difference in the texture of the skin and a remarkable reduction in acne scars. The texture will continue to improve for about 4 – 6 months after your final C02 procedure.

LASER SKIN RESURFACING ADDRESSES CONDITIONS SUCH AS

• Acne Scars
When the skin develops pits or raised areas in the surface, it’s often a result of severe acne. The condition is exacerbated by picking or scratching, which creates lesions that become acne scars.
• Loss of Collagen
As a result of aging, the skin can become loose, wrinkle and decrease in elasticity. Natural cell renewal weakens, so the skin begins to lose firmness and smoothness.
• Sagging Skin
Due to the loss of collagen from aging, the skin may appear less supple and start to droop. There is also a loss of elasticity that causes the skin to lose its spring.
• Textured Skin
Sun damage, age and elements in the environment can make the skin noticeably rough. The smoothness decreases gradually with age, so the skin can develop a harsh surface. Large pores – When sebum production becomes excessive, the pores can fill with dirt and bacteria. Oily skin, acne and blackheads are often an indication of large pores.
• Sun Damage
UVA rays can cause damage to the skin that produces wrinkles, fine lines, sunspots and skin discolorations. The skin can become dry and lose some its natural oils.
• Brown Spots
When there is an excessive production of melanin in the skin, dark spots may appear on the skin. Sun damage and aging can cause this condition.
• Hyperpigmentation
This happens when the skin darkens from sun exposure, inflammation, injury or an overproduction of melanin in the skin. Liver spots and freckles are also an indication of hyperpigmentation. Surgical scars – After surgeries like face lifts, tummy tucks, implants or liposuction, scars may appear post-surgery. This occurs because the skin has been cut during the procedure and has begun to heal.
• Anti-Aging
The process of reducing skin damage like wrinkles, fine lines and sagging skin. Through special treatments and procedures, the aging process can be slowed down dramatically. Heavy eye lids – With aging the upper eyelids can develop excess skin, which may make the eyelids feel heavy. Other causes of eyelid heaviness are dry eyes and eye allergies.
• Wrinkles Around Mouth
As we age, the skin begins to lose collagen and elastin around the mouth area. Wrinkles begin to form and increase as we get older.
• Deep Crow’s Feet
Crow’s feet is characterized as a cluster of wrinkles and fine lines that form around the eyes. When crow’s feet is significantly more pronounced, it’s often referred to as deep crow’s feet.
• Fine Lines
As people age, lines can form around the eyes and mouth. Facial expressions like smiling and frowning can form fine lines and make them more pronounced with age.
